Skiing
Wanaka has three great ski fields within a 45 minute drive. Treble Cone offers the more adventurous experienced skier the challenge of black runs, Cardrona offers an easier slope with long sweeping runs, and the cross country area offers something completely different but just as fulfilling.
And for heli-skiing enthusiasts, the Southern Alps provide all the virgin powder skiing you could ever want.
Wineries
Wanaka and Central Otago is a relatively new wine growing area but has rapidly gained world wide recognition for the quality of its cool climate varieties - mainly Pinot Noir, Riesling and Chardonnay. There are many wineries available for the day-tripper and good wine tours are also available so you don't have to drive yourself. The local vineyards are Rippon ( perhaps the worlds most photogenic vineyard) and Mt Maude which both offer superb examples of the region's pinot noir and riesling varietals.
We grow our own pinot noir and riesling with rose being added for the 2007 season. Your wine tour can begin and finish here.
Dining
Wanaka has a great range of restaurants specialising in everything from local game to Italian and Vegetarian specialties. You may wish to dine at the Lodge with us or we can book you into any one of a number of quality local restaurants.
Arts
Wanaka has many local artists. If you would like an original take home memory from the area we would recommend spending time exploring the many shops, studios and homes of local artists. If you are an artist and feel inspired by our setting we will happily set you up in the studio or tower to provide you with limitless inspiration for your own work. |
