  • Our policy has always been to live as environmentally at one with our surroundings and ensure the tenureship of the land is nourished naturally.
  • The lodge at Cardrona Terrace Estate has been designed of eco-friendly sustainable materials to be energy efficient and hypo-allergenic, reflecting the changing colours of our magnificent landscape. Warm in winter and cool in summer with a natural flow through of air.
  • The materials used are maintenance free for the next 200 years.
  • Our rooms are thermostatically controlled with radiant ceiling panels for a quick warm up.
  • We use gas for instant water heating and cooking.
  • We use energy efficient light bulbs.
  • We encourage guests to reuse towels to save on laundry.
  • The laundry, cleaning products, and toiletries used in the lodge are eco-friendly, natural and bio-degradable.
  • Our water comes from our own bore and is 99% pure with 1% calcium. Guests are given recyclable bottles of our pure water.
  • Dual flush toilets in all bathrooms with our own bio sustainable sewerage treatment system.
  • We have always had a green policy and have planted thousands of trees on the property including natives, nut trees, fruit trees and olives. Many of our guests have had the opportunity of planting trees themselves.
  • The property has always been run on organic principles with companion planting and spray free herbs and seasonal vegetables grown in our gardens.
  • Green matter has always been composted including the vineyard waste which is recycled to mulch and winery waste to animal fodder. Mulch is also used under all our trees as well as on the gardens.
  • We recycle paper, glass, tin and plastic using our local Wanaka Wastebusters having very little solid waste.
  • We have encouraged bird life by planting specific trees and also have an abundance of herons, stilts and oyster catchers which inhabit the property when our flood irrigation is running.
  • We use natural products on our vineyard and our wine is made as naturally as possible and not fined through egg white.
  • Poplar poles are shared with the community for replanting on other properties. (700 to date).
  • We are involved in conservation with the eradication of wilding pines.
  • Our property has been used by many community organizations in fund raising for community projects and we are very active in sharing our knowledge in regards to the history and ecology of our area.

We love to share the environment we have created for a healthy lifestyle with our guests and the wider community show casing what is the best in Wanaka for a clean, green image.
